6.1. Introduction to Step 6: Research, Present, and Advocate for Your Proposal
In Step 6, the primary object is to select, research and develop your proposal for stopping gun violence and then write a speech that you will deliver on video (Flipgrid). First, you need to choose the proposals that will be included in your proposal. You can have one or more specific proposals. Second research your proposal in more depth. Third, outline your proposal, write the speech, and deliver the speech. Finally, send a link to the speech to at least three of your friends or family members.

6.4. Introduction to Democratic Voice
The primary purpose of Lift Every Voice is to help you to master the values, skills, and knowledge you need to be able to advocate solutions for the major problems in our country and in our world. That's what we call "democratic voice". Scroll through the Sway below to learn more about democratic voice.
In this Step 6, you will develop your own speech which you can use to lift your democratic voice.
6.5. Research One or More Proposals
In Step 5, you read proposals, listened to speeches, and then rated the proposals. The next step is for you to choose one or more proposals and then to research in more depth. Click on the button below to go to your Stop Gun Violence Project where you can take notes as you research your proposals.
6.6. Develop and Outline Your Proposal
In this Step 6.6, you are going to begin to develop and outline your proposal to stop gun violence. Once you have chosen your proposal, you are going to write an outline for your speech. It should have the following components:
Title: Catchy and inspirational
Introduction: Briefly introduce yourself.
State Proposal: State your Stop the Pandemic proposal(s).
Explain Proposal: Briefly explain the proposal(s).
Reasons for Supporting: Provide three reasons why you are advocating this proposal.
Address Criticisms: Address the criticisms of opponents of this proposal.
Personal Importance of This Proposal: Provide any personal reasons or experiences which are related to this proposal.
Summarize Proposal: Summarize your proposal and reason
Conclusion: Provide a moving conclusion that will connect with your audience/viewers.
Call to Action: Provide a "Call to Action" where you ask the viewers to support your proposal.

6.7. Write Your Stop Gun Violence Speech
In this Step, you will use your outline to write out your Stop Gun Violence Speech.
Remember this is a speech that will be orally delivered. Write more like you talk. Imagine your audience listening to the content and the delivery of your speech. Once you are done with writing out your speech, you will then deliver it on Flipgrid in the next Step.
6.8. Deliver Your Speech
In this most important Step, you will deliver your written speech orally on Flipgrid.
You will have three minutes to record your speech. You can do a retake if you want. Practice reading your speech out loud to see how long it takes. Make sure you have it under three minutes before recording it.
Here are the things to think about as you get ready to do your speech.
· Make Eye Contact: Maintain eye contact with the camera. Use facial expressions and gestures to reinforce your message.
· Use Your Voice: Vary your voice to emphasize different points. Enunciate your words. Speak naturally and clearly.
· Use Your Memory: Memorize your speech. Make an outline. Try to deliver your speech without using your outline.
· Express Personal Meaning: Express the depth of your feelings and thoughts. Be authentic. Be real.
· Audience: Engage your audience/viewers. Address their concerns. Call on them to take an action to support your proposal.
Don't worry about small mistakes.
I would suggest having a small set of bullet points written down that help you remember your speech. Your oral speech doesn't have to exactly match your written speech. Feel free to improvise. Try not to use your outline.
Just make sure you get in your major points.
This is the most important assignment in this minicourse so give it your all.
6.9. Upload Your Speech
When you have completed your speech download it from Flipgrid upload it to your Stop Gun Violence Project. This will assure that you will be able to share your speech with anyone and will have a copy of it for the future. You can post it on your social media accounts.
Download: In Flipgrid after you have completed your speech, go to where your speech and the other speeches are listed under the topic and then to the right of your speech click on "Actions", then click on "Download Video". This will put the MP4 of your speech in your downloads.
Upload: In your Stop Gun Violence Project (bulb), got to Step 6.9 and click your mouse and you will see an option for adding "Video". Click on that and then click on "Upload/Embed". Then click on "Browse device" and go to your downloads and click on your MP4. This will embed your video in your project and then you can share it with whoever your want.
6.10: Advocate: Send Your Speech To At Least Three Persons
After you have delivered and uploaded your speech, send your speech to at least three other persons.
The link in the letter below will bring the viewer to the videos (in Flipgrid) for this topic: Proposals to Stop Gun Violence. When the viewer clicks on this link, he or she will be taken to the topic and then he or she can find your speech, listen to it, and respond to it.
Ask them to view your speech and respond to it online. They can also watch the videos of other students and staff.

P.S. You could also just attach the MP4 video to your letter. But then you wouldn't be able to get their response on Flipgrid. You could do some of both including posting the video on your social media accounts.
6.11. Next Steps
In the next step, you will respond to the proposals of other students and discuss and debate your proposals. You can affirm their speeches, add additional comments, add respectful criticisms, and suggest compromises or syntheses.
